Together Ma'an: Together for a strong Schwerin of cultures!

The “Miteinander Ma’an” association is active in the state capital Schwerin and advocates for harmonious coexistence in the city. The association was founded in 2016 and since then it has made it its mission to promote social cohesion and improve mutual understanding between people of different backgrounds. The association currently has over 25 members from different countries who are very committed to the community. A particularly active member came to Germany as a refugee ten years ago and is now contributing many new ideas to the projects. NDR reports on the association's remarkable commitment.

The motto “Togetherness”, “Ma’an” in Arabic, not only reflects the goals of the association, but also serves as a decisive driving force in the implementation of its projects. These include, among other things, support offers such as tutoring for students, especially children from war zones, as well as swimming courses for all genders and age groups. The association also organizes intercultural gardening in Schwerin and offers native language lessons in Arabic, which have taken place regularly since 2016. each other-maan.org emphasizes that such projects contribute not only to education but also to cultural integration.

Diversity of projects

One of the fascinating offerings are the creative workshops, which offer a platform for exchange and further training. For example, there are sewing courses where Ukrainian, Syrian and German women can work together to improve their handicraft skills. In addition, basic IT knowledge is taught in cooperation with the Schwerin Adult Education Center, which will particularly benefit many young people. The association also plans numerous cultural events, including music and theater performances, to strengthen the sense of community.

The association also pursues cooperative projects, such as the professional qualification of young women in Kasese, Uganda, together with the organization RUFI. This shows how important not only local commitment is to the association, but also the link with international aid initiatives. Projects such as the intercultural meeting café or readings in different languages under the title “10-10-10” invite you to get to know new cultures and break down prejudices.

Intercultural engagement in focus

The importance of such integration projects is underlined by the federal program “Social Cohesion – On Site. Networked. Connected.”, which supports around 300 projects in Germany to improve intercultural exchange. These initiatives show how important it is to bring people with and without a migration background together and to create meeting spaces in which open communication can take place. bamf.de provides comprehensive information about such integration projects and their goals.

The Miteinander Ma’an association is not only an important player in Schwerin, but also helps to promote mutual understanding and social cohesion. His commitment and the multi-layered projects are an example of how strength can arise from diversity.
