New markings should relieve traffic at the Loitzer confluence!
Who doesn't know that? You head towards a junction and ask yourself whether you are in the right place. This is exactly the problem that is currently occurring at the junction of Schlossbergstrasse and Goethestrasse in Loitz. This is a particularly busy point, especially because the L261 runs along here. One-way traffic regulations from the port also lead to a lot of traffic at this point, which makes the situation even more complicated. The Northern Courier reports that parked cars significantly impede traffic by making it treacherous to exit.
Things can quickly get tight here, especially for those turning left with larger vehicles or trailers. Drivers on Schlossbergstrasse often orient themselves too far to the left, which undoubtedly leads to space problems. In order to alleviate these difficulties, a solution in the form of curved lines on the asphalt is sought.
New markings for better orientation
The new markings are intended to help improve the traffic situation on Schlossbergstrasse. This measure is also used at the mouth of the Brandmühlendamm to keep waiting vehicles on their side. A similar problem also exists on Postberg, where the L261 turns onto Brandmühlendamm.
The implementation of these markings, which are made of cold plastic and therefore require dry conditions and no low temperatures, is planned for next spring by the Demmin office of the Neustrelitz road construction authority. They finally want to ensure more security and clarity.
One-way street regulations in detail
Another issue is the special traffic rules that apply to one-way streets. These roads are only allowed to travel in one direction, which is indicated by traffic sign 220 (a white and blue sign with an arrow). The end of a one-way street is marked by traffic sign 267 (red sign with white crossbar). So you have to pay close attention to the signs!
One-way streets also pose special challenges: reversing is generally not permitted there unless you park. Without traffic lights or specific traffic signs, the rule on these streets is “right before left”. Cyclists are sometimes allowed to cycle in the opposite direction if there is an additional sign. However, this requires special consideration from drivers. Anyone who violates these rules must expect fines of between 20 and over 50 euros, depending on the severity of the violation. ADAC and the catalog of fines explain that particular caution is also required when choosing a parking space. On one-way streets, parking is only permitted in the direction of travel, and overtaking is only permitted if there is enough space to ensure that no one is endangered.
In summary, the planned markings will obviously increase traffic safety in Loitz. The prospect of better orientation on Schlossbergstrasse and the adjacent junctions is a step in the right direction. We can now hope that the implementation goes smoothly and that residents and road users can benefit from the changes.
