In Schwerin, more precisely on Münzstrasse, an incident occurred in the early morning hours of June 16, 2025 that once again brought to attention the dangers for police officers. At around 2 a.m., several police officers were called to an operation where they encountered a group of 15 to 20 people who were involved in a heated argument. There was a brutal attack on a 28-year-old police officer, who briefly lost consciousness as a result. According to NDR, two other colleagues, a 25-year-old and a 31-year-old, were also injured during the altercation.
The operation was anything but calm. One suspect attacked the young police officer with a kick to the head, while another, a 27-year-old police officer, was not injured but quickly rushed to support her partner who was being attacked. Immediately after the incident, the group broke up, but two 22-year-old suspects were identified nearby and temporarily arrested. During this arrest, another attack occurred in which the two detainees attacked the officers, resulting in further injuries.
