The Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin is ringing in the summer season with an exciting production of Franz Lehár's operetta classic “The Merry Widow”. The premiere will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025 in the newly built theater tent in the kitchen garden. Under the direction of Andrea Schwalbach, an experienced operetta director, the audience can expect an unforgettable experience, accompanied by the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin under the musical direction of Eric Staiger.
“The Merry Widow,” which has been one of the most successful operettas in the world since its premiere in 1905, tells the story of Hanna Glawari, a wealthy widow who finds herself at the center of a social game in Paris. Her wealth attracts many men, including Count Danilo, Hanna's former lover. But the Count is only supposed to marry her to save the Principality of Pontevedro from bankruptcy, which rekindles the old love between the two.
