Schwerin increases wastewater fees: What allotment gardeners need to know now!

In Schwerin there will be some changes to wastewater fees from 2024, which will primarily affect allotment gardeners. The city council is planning to increase the fees for decentralized wastewater disposal, which will be confirmed at the next meeting, which will take place on Monday at 5 p.m. in the Demmlersaal in the town hall. The main committee has already recommended adopting the changed fee regulations, as reported by nordkurier.de.

A central concern of the new regulation is determining the costs of wastewater disposal, which will change for many households. While the fees for central wastewater disposal remain stable, users of drainless collection pits and small sewage treatment plants must expect significant price increases. The volume fee for dirty water from drainless collection pits increases from 15.50 euros to 18.60 euros per cubic meter. The price for small sewage treatment plants will even be raised from 20.52 to 44 euros. In addition, the costs for standard and special collection will also increase.

An overview of the changes

The increased fees are the result of higher personnel costs, as well as transport and third-party costs. Interestingly, the decisions only affect about two percent of consumers in terms of fees, meaning that most citizens will not be directly affected by the changes.

These price increases could pose a major challenge for some allotment gardeners in Schwerin. Often there are measurable amounts in potato dimensions that suddenly arise, and this can have a serious impact on the hobby and the care of one's own little piece of earth. Nevertheless, city officials are showing that they have a good hand for the municipality's financial stability by adjusting fees and maintaining the quality of wastewater disposal.

Developments in the wastewater sector are particularly important as they can have a direct impact on many households in the region. In addition, the issue of environmental protection and sustainable wastewater management is playing an increasingly important role in municipal planning.
