Schwerin in volleyball fever: SSC talents conquer the Nations League!
The sport of volleyball is booming and is causing great enthusiasm in Northern Germany! SSC Palmberg Schwerin, freshly crowned with the German championship title, is not only doing well nationally but also internationally this season. The Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in particular brings joy for players, coaches and fans.
Particular attention is paid to Leana Grozer, who is part of the German national team and has already gained important experience in cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Belgrade. Their commitment under the coaching team of Martin Frydnes, assistant coach at SSC and part of the DVV team under head coach Giulio Bregoli, gives hope for some exciting matches.
Germany's chances in the VNL
The German selection is currently in seventh place in the VNL rankings with 14 points from eight games. Their chances of making it to the final round of the best eight teams are good, and after a regenerative phase back from Belgrade, the team will compete in Arlington (USA) from July 9th. There it will face strong opponents such as Canada, Thailand, China and the Dominican Republic.
The VNL, which has existed since 2018 and is the successor to the World League and the World Grand Prix, has developed rapidly. At first it was more of an insider tip among friends and family of the athletes. However, the games are now enjoying ever-increasing popularity, and not without reason: volleyball has moved from school gymnasiums to large arenas and is now also broadcast on television, which has greatly increased the number of fans, such as Volleyball World reported.
Dutchman with Schwerin connections
Another look at the VNL shows the role of the Netherlands, which was led by Felix Koslowski, the head coach of the SSC. The Dutch national team includes players such as Britte Stuut, Florien Reesink and Suus Gerritsen, who will play for Schwerin next season. The Dutch are currently in twelfth place and have only managed three wins, including a narrow win against Germany (3:2).
The third VNL week for the Dutch women will take place in Apeldoorn against teams such as Turkey, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Italy. True to the motto: “The best strategy is pursued as a team”.
A look at the mode and prices
The VNL, which is played between 18 nations over three preliminary round weeks, requires each team to play four games. The eight best teams qualify for the finals in Lodz, Poland for women and in China for men. The mode is simple and exciting, and the prize money speaks for itself: whoever wins the league can win a whopping $1 million, while $9,500 is awarded per win and $4,250 per loss, further motivating participants.
The German women's national team already gave a foretaste of the strength of their own talents in 2023 after playing their way well into the final round. 2025 is seen as a year of change in which young players will be encouraged to gain international experience. Who knows, maybe we will hear about a new record winner from Germany in the near future?
The next games are imminent, and ZDF All games with German participation will be broadcast live. No volleyball fan should miss this!
