Schwerin in transition: Martensmarkt and new plans for Paulshöhe!
Schwerin, the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, has several topics in its luggage that concern the city and its residents. A place that has been hidden for years is the former sports grounds on Paulshöhe. Plans for a Waldorf school were initially abandoned here, and the city administration is now required to develop fresh ideas for the area. An architecture competition is expected to shed light on the matter next year, but the first results are not expected before 2028 Baltic Sea newspaper reported.
So while the patient citizens wait for progress on Paulshöhe, something completely different is just around the corner: the Martensmarkt. From November 7th to 9th, Schwerin's city center invites you to a historic market town whose tradition extends over a proud 700 years. The Martensmann from Lübeck will set a particularly celebratory highlight on Sunday at 2 p.m. by serving out wine. Look forward to a colorful hustle and bustle and delicious treats!
Culture and emotions in the state theater
Another highlight is coming up in the Schwerin State Theater: the premiere of the ballet piece “Once Upon A Time” expresses great feelings such as love, hope and loss. This three-part masterpiece will premiere in November and will be a real treat not only for culture lovers. Tickets are already available and promise an unforgettable evening in the M*Halle.
But it's not just the cultural scene that's causing a stir. A court case is now underway, which is causing many questions and discussions. A young man who poured gasoline on himself on a tram and set himself on fire on June 29 will be brought to justice. He suffers from serious injuries and his mental state is the focus of the investigation. It will be examined whether the defendant suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and whether he needs to be admitted to a psychiatric facility like that Baltic Sea newspaper reported.
Personalities in the east wind
On the other side of the city, the “Ostwind” restaurant attracts prominent guests. The restaurant is planning a series of talks with Margot Käßmann and Franz Müntefering until 2026. Both figures, who have published books after their political careers, will be available for brilliant conversation while guests enjoy the sea views.
Schwerin has a lot to offer: exciting cultural events, interesting court cases and the search for new opportunities for the Paulshöhe. So things are anything but boring in the state capital!
