Schwerin is looking for the best reading voice: 14 talents in the showdown!

The anticipation for February 2nd is increasing in Schwerin! The city decision takes place on this day 67th reading competition of the German book trade in the main library in the Klöresgang. From 2 p.m. 14 talented young people who have previously qualified in school competitions will compete. They all have just one goal: to reach the next round and, ideally, to be represented at the national finals in June.

Organized by the Book Culture and Reading Promotion Foundation of the Börsenverein, this competition attracts numerous bookworms and literature lovers every year. Since its founding in 1959, the reading competition has developed into one of the largest student competitions in Germany. With over 600,000 participants nationwide and more than 7,000 6th grade students in the regional decisions, it is really popular. Silvio Horn, head of the Schwerin cultural department, also emphasizes the importance of this competition for young people's love of reading and literature.

The course of the competition

The competition consists of two exciting rounds. In the first round, participants present a prepared text that they have selected themselves. It's not just reading ability that counts, but also expression and understanding of the text. In the second round, the young people then have to demonstrate their skills with an unknown text, which is presented without any preparation. This challenge reflects the creative abilities of the participants and ensures exciting moments.

A five-member jury from different areas of the literary scene will evaluate the lectures. The criteria include comprehensibility, expression and the ability to bring a story to life. So the chances are good that we will see many impressive presentations at the end of the day!

Rewards and next steps

All participants can look forward to a certificate and the book “Rocky Winterfeld” by Marie Hüttner, and the winners of the city competition qualify for the Mecklenburg-West district competition. The top two finishers in the district competition then have the opportunity to compete in the state competition in May. The big highlight follows in June: the national final with 16 state winners, which forms the crowning conclusion to an exciting year of competition.

The event is open to the public and attracts literature enthusiasts from all over the city. The reading competition is not only a stage for the young generation of readers, but also actively promotes reading and a love of literature.

Stop by and support the young talents in their quest for fame and recognition in the field of reading aloud!
