Excitement on Lake Schwerin: Eisbein Cup inspires large number of participants!
The traditionally popular regatta, the Eisbein Cup, took place on November 8th, 2025 at the Schwerin Sailing Home. Organized by the youth of the Schwerin Sailing Club (SSV), around 25 participants competed against each other in the small sailing boats “Optimist”. The adults are divided into teams, while the youth observe the action from the water and support them with the help of motorized inflatable boats. Schwerin.News reported an exciting atmosphere in which the spectators enthusiastically cheered on the regatta participants from the jetty.
There was a competition on the Schwerin inner lake. The boats had to go around two installed targets. “In the end, it’s all about not capsizing and reaching the finish faster than your competitors,” explains the SSV website. The Schwerin Sailing Club emphasizes that teamwork and strategy are crucial to successfully compete in this competition. The tilting of the boats, caused by the weight of the adults, often led to amusing situations that the audience commented on with jokes.
Delicious pork knuckle and conviviality
After the sailing competition, which took place in bright sunshine, the participants and spectators could look forward to a cozy get-together. Culinary delicacies were not spared here - the traditional pork knuckle with sauerkraut and pea puree was on the menu. A DJ provided the appropriate musical background and everyone was able to end the day happily on the dance floor. In addition, the best sailors were recognized with an awards ceremony and photos of the day were shared, which certainly led to one or two suggestions for improvements next year. The SSV leaves no doubt that this event has become an integral part of club life and is very popular.
The good mood and the sense of community made the Eisbein Cup an outstanding event of the sailing season. “We are already looking forward to the next regatta,” said one last comment, which spoke to the hearts of many others in the group. The only question that remains is whether there was also a big ice cream dinner after such a successful day - but nothing further was announced about this.
