Stadtwerke beach festival delights 17,000 visitors despite rain and wind!
The Stadtwerke beach festival on Zippendorfer Strand caused a lot of enthusiasm last weekend. Despite the unsettled weather with rain and wind, around 17,000 visitors flocked to this colorful spectacle, which had the motto “Celebrate, be amazed and take part”. The Schwerin public utility company, which organized the event, put together a diverse program that appealed to families as well as sports enthusiasts and music lovers. Schwerin local reports on the great interest that the numerous attractions generated.
Activity areas were set up along the bank, offering a variety of activities. Regional clubs were given the opportunity to present their sports. You could find the Badminton Sports Club Schwerin as well as long-time participants such as the BC Traktor Schwerin and the Marine Club with the cutter ship “Pamir”. Some sports activities had to be moved indoors at short notice due to the weather, but this did not dampen the good mood. Also the city of Schwerin highlights that the event offered numerous free participation activities for all age groups.
A colorful program for young and old
A highlight was the musical entertainment. On Saturday, the duo “Strandfunk”, among others, ensured a good mood, while on Sunday the NDR choir contest captivated the visitors. Nine ensembles competed against each other, with the children's and youth choir from the Singakademie Rostock and the band MixTape from Rostock as well as the Schweriner Klönköpp becoming the winners in their categories. The music program was rounded off by performances by jazz comedy and DJ Patrick Keimel, who provided an atmospheric backdrop to the festival.
There were attractive offers in the Stromzwerg children's area, especially for the youngest children, including Neptune baptism, face painting and much more. And while the children played happily, the island baker Erik Herrmann provided the culinary catering with fresh baked goods and fragrant coffee on Sunday.
Active on the island of Hakenwerder
Another special experience was the ferry crossing to the island of Rabbitwerder. This was possible from Bosselmannstrasse and offered visitors the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding area on natural history tours or while trying out fishing. Yoga, archery and culinary specialties such as island bread made for an all-round successful program on the island. Also worth mentioning that the organizers are planning a new edition next year in the hope of enriching and expanding the festival even further.
The Schwerin public utilities are proud of how the festival went and see it as a successful attempt to thank the citizens for their loyalty. The focus is on joie de vivre and regional commitment - and this was impressively visible on Zippendorfer Strand. Overall, the Stadtwerke Beach Festival not only made many faces shine, but also promoted a strong sense of community.
