Southern sound live: Railers bring atmosphere to the conservatory!
On Friday, July 18, 2025, a very special highlight awaits music lovers in Schwerin: The band Railers will perform in the inner courtyard of the conservatory at 7 p.m. This concert is part of the popular “Kon-Tacte 2025” series, which is intended to offer a relaxed musical end to the week. The venue, Puschkinstrasse 6, will once again be the setting for varied musical experiences that will captivate visitors.
The Railers, founded in 2017 by the talented guitarist Matthias Baldwin, bring the spirit of 20th century southern music to Schwerin with their sounds. The other band members include Friedrich Bassarak, who not only plays the accordion, but also contributes vocals and teaches at the conservatory. Christoph Klan provides special tonal accents with clarinet and banjo, while Johannes Hanekamp provides the rhythmic underpinnings on double bass.
An evening for music fans
The band's first album, "Tales from the Rails", was released in summer 2019 and showcases the band's musical diversity and influences. The group has also produced the “Railroad Session” video series, which provides insight into their musical inspirations. The soul of the Railers' music lives from its deep roots in the traditions of Americana and folk music, which are closely linked to the southern states. The concert not only offers entertainment, but also a piece of American culture that never ceases to amaze.
For a low entrance fee of 12 euros, reduced to just 8 euros, music lovers can become part of this unique evening. Tickets are already available for reservation and interested attendees should email Diana Semlow to secure their spot.
A look at the musical roots
The Railers' music draws from a rich tradition that has its origins in the southern states of the USA. Famous musicians such as Elvis Presley and Louis Armstrong have made this region a distinctive center for music. Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, where Elvis lived, continues to attract fans from all over the world and is a National Historic Landmark. Jazz legend Armstrong, born in New Orleans, made a decisive contribution to the development of jazz with his work. Such influences and stories are also reflected in the sounds of the Railers and make their music particularly lively and appealing to listeners.
For anyone looking for an unforgettable evening full of music and culture, the Railers concert in the inner courtyard of the conservatory is an absolute must. It's an opportunity to experience the laid-back atmosphere of Southern music up close while supporting the band as it strives to preserve and pass on this musical heritage.
