Traffic chaos in Schwerin: Massive construction work starts on Monday!
The streets in Schwerin will be tight from Monday, November 3rd. The reason for this is extensive construction and forestry work that will last until December 19th. A district heating pipe will be laid on Von-Thünen-Straße between house numbers 18 and 26. The street in this area will be rededicated as a one-way street in the direction of Voßstraße. Unfortunately, turning from Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße onto Wittenburger Straße is temporarily not possible. However, affected residents can drive to the construction site, reports Nordkurier.
In addition, a house connection for district heating will be set up at Wittenburger Straße 81, at the corner of Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße. The construction work for this measure is planned for the period from November 4th to November 21st. During this time, a tree care program will also be carried out on Gadebuscher Straße, which will be organized by the municipal utilities through the SDS and will last from November 3rd to November 28th.
Further restrictions in Schwerin
There will also be traffic disruptions on Neumühler Weg from November 5th. Repair work is being carried out here on house numbers 1 to 5. This work should also be completed by December 19th. Drivers must prepare for a half-way closure of the road, while pedestrians should use the sidewalk along Gadebuscher Straße.
Restrictions on access to the properties will be announced for residents throughout the construction period. However, emergency vehicles will continue to have unrestricted access and waste disposal will be organized according to plan. “We ask all residents to be understanding and to ensure that they follow the signs,” said a city spokesman.
Safety measures and sidewalks
The work is not just limited to street areas. The SDS has also planned a series of sidewalk repairs in the coming weeks, which will take place on various streets. Among other things, there will be work on Rahlstedter Straße from November 17th to 28th. Another example is the Eckdrift intersection, where repair work will be carried out between November 6th and 21st. Some measures started in October and will last until December to renovate the pedestrian paths.
Since the safety of road users is the top priority for city leaders, special safety precautions have been taken in the affected areas. Roads will be signposted for the duration of the work and residents are asked to keep themselves informed of current restrictions.
Information for forest visitors
Parallel to the work in the city, wood will be harvested in the city forest on Plater Straße from November 2nd to the end of the month. Here, forest visitors are asked to exercise caution and to observe the barriers and notice boards in order to avoid unnecessary risks caused by machines.
With these measures, Schwerin is placing a clear focus on improving the infrastructure. Even if some traffic disruptions have to be accepted at the moment, one should focus on the positive changes that these construction projects will bring with them.
