Aggressive passenger causes chaos on the regional express to Stralsund
In an incident that caused great uproar, an aggressive incident occurred today on the Regional Express 3304 from Berlin to Stralsund. According to the News.de The emergency control center of Deutsche Bahn informed the federal police about a couple who were behaving suspiciously on the train. The mess began when a 30-year-old German got off the train at a stop at Prenzlau station and got back on shortly afterwards. He blocked the door of the train, which significantly delayed its onward journey. Finally, a customer service representative spoke to the man.
To make matters worse, the man reacted extremely aggressively. He approached the customer service representative in a threatening manner and raised his fist, so that she fled in panic into the control car and locked herself there. The aggressive passenger then tried to open the door to the service compartment, but was unable to do so. Meanwhile he went to the train toilet.
Police operation at Pasewalk train station
After stopping at Pasewalk train station, the couple left the train and met the federal police who were already waiting. A check on the man revealed that he had various records and previous convictions. A breath alcohol test showed an alarming level of 2.48 per mille, although the accused appeared relatively oriented. A search did not produce any relevant findings, but charges were nevertheless filed for coercion, threats, bodily harm (attempt) and obtaining benefits by fraud.
Similar incidents show an alarming trend towards aggressiveness among passengers. It was only on Thursday that an incident similar to this occurred on an ICE train from Berlin to Munich DZBA reported. A 36-year-old passenger was traveling without a ticket and harassed other passengers by insulting a 23-year-old woman obscenely and trying to force her out of her seat. This incident led to the police stopping the train at Bitterfeld station and arresting the man.
The incidents highlight the problem of the safety situation on trains, especially under the influence of alcohol. While the police responded quickly in both cases, the question remains as to how public transport can be made safer in the future.
