German Beach Polo Championship: 20,000 visitors expected in Sellin!

Things are about to get lively in the picturesque Baltic Sea resort of Sellin! The 9th German Beach Polo Championship will take place here from October 1st to 5th, 2025, an event that will attract both sports enthusiasts and spectators. Loud Baltic Sea newspaper Up to 20,000 visitors are expected who can look forward to exciting competitions and an extensive supporting program.

The event takes place on Selliner Strand, where a playing field measuring approximately 80 x 25 meters will be set up. Over 70 polo horses compete against each other in action-packed matches. Tournament director Thomas Strunck is responsible for the organization, and he underlines the importance of this tournament: It is the only officially approved beach polo tournament of the German Polo Association in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

A varied program

The day before, on October 2nd, the event opens with a festive horse parade at 4 p.m., which is musically accompanied by the “Ostsee Fanfaren”. The competitions start on October 3rd at 1 p.m. under the moderation of Jan-Erik Franck and offer exciting games until October 5th until the grand finale and the award ceremony at 12 p.m.

In addition to the sporting highlights, there will also be an evening event, the “House Party” on October 3rd in the lounge tent. On the same evening there will also be an Oktoberfest from 8:30 p.m. where guests can enjoy Bavarian cosiness for an entry fee of 60 euros.

There is a public area for spectators with seating in the tent and on the beach where they can watch the games comfortably. At the same time, food and drink stands are available to ensure the physical well-being of visitors. If you like something a little more exclusive, you have the option of purchasing VIP tickets for 75 euros. This gives you access to the VIP area, which is reserved for players and celebrities.

Equestrian sport in focus

Equestrian sport has a long tradition in Germany. It includes various disciplines, from dressage to show jumping, and is very popular.
