The Origins and Spirit of Halloween
But where does the festival actually come from that draws us into the realm of ghosts and demons every year on October 31st? Halloween has its roots in ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly Samhain. This day represents the belief that the souls of the deceased are particularly active on November 1st. To protect themselves from evil spirits, people dressed up and offered food. These practices date back to the Roman Empire, where sharing fruits, especially apples, was a tradition.
Over the past few decades, Halloween has become a significant cultural event, with approximately a quarter of candy sales occurring annually during this time in the United States alone. Despite all the celebrations, the question remains whether celebrating Halloween, with its origins in the dark customs of the past, is appropriate for all people, especially Christians. Although the Bible itself does not offer any specific references to Halloween, it does address points of contact with practices such as witchcraft and fortune-telling and calls for reflection on good values.
Be it in Stralsund or Cologne – there is definitely great anticipation for the exciting Halloween parties on October 31, 2025. With this in mind: eerily beautiful greetings and a wonderful time!
