What a beautiful sight: Stralsund shines in festive splendor! The Christmas market in the historic old town opened its doors on Monday, November 25th, 2025 and is captivating both locals and visitors. This fabulous event, taking place at the Neuer Markt until December 22, 2025, offers a wonderful combination of tradition and modern flair.
The Stralsund Christmas market is the oldest in the Baltic Sea region and combines a long history with the magical ambience of the UNESCO World Heritage city. The New Market has an ice rink and a Christmas fair, while the Old Market has a cultural tent, a Ferris wheel and delicious treats. Here you can not only admire the festive lighting, but also feel the winter anticipation.
Variety of attractions
Almost 90 dealers and exhibitors ensure a colorful hustle and bustle at the markets. More than 40 artisans present their handmade treasures in the town hall cellar. Visitors will find a large selection of paintings, Christmas tree baubles, ceramics, jewelry and even incense. So if you are still looking for a special gift, you will find it here.
There are also numerous events on the program at the Old Market. Around 40 events are planned in the culture tent, including the winter circus on December 6th and 7th and a Christmas singing on December 20th. The highlight will be the New Year's Eve party. Not to be forgotten is the historically designed Christmas market in the St. John's Monastery, which comes to life from December 12th to 14th and takes up the tradition of the St. Nicholas Market.
A feast for the senses
The atmosphere at the Christmas market is simply magical. The smell of roasted almonds, freshly baked gingerbread and cotton candy wafts through the streets and makes hearts beat faster. For the little guests there are even visits from Santa Claus and fairytale grandma. And with a little luck you can experience a great competition at the tombola.
To make the experience even safer, additional passage barriers have been set up. The organizers work closely with the police, fire department and city to make the Christmas market an all-round successful experience.
Anyone who visits the Stralsund Christmas market has the opportunity to enjoy the variety and fluid interplay of brightly lit stalls and happy faces from 11 a.m. until late in the evening. The stalls on the Old Market and the ice rink will remain open until January 4th and invite you to enjoy the Christmas season to the fullest.
