Bundeswehr Day in Stralsund: 3000 portions of pea soup are waiting!

On June 28, 2025, Stralsund will be the venue for the annual Bundeswehr Day. The event promises to be a hit with thousands of guests expected. On the harbor island, visitors can take a look behind the scenes of the soldiers of all branches of the armed forces and experience first-hand what the Bundeswehr has to offer. Preparations are in full swing, especially in the culinary department.

This year the menu includes 1,200 liters of freshly prepared pea soup, which comes from the Stralsund Marine Technology School. Cooking begins at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning when a team of 25 people, supported by other marine facilities, prepare the 3,000 portions of 0.4 liters each. The condiment is served with bockwurst and rolls, and the whole thing costs a paltry 3.60 euros per portion. The soup is distributed directly from the port, while 29 soldiers work diligently to transport the tasty portions from the naval school in Parow to the field kitchens. In addition to the pea soup, 1,200 other portions are prepared in the Parow commercial kitchen for soldiers and civilian employees. The anticipation of the culinary delights is great!

But it's not just the kitchen that will ensure your physical well-being. The navy will present itself on the harbor island and visitors can marvel at a variety of maritime equipment and exhibits. These include the K130 corvette and Class 404 tenders, which can be experienced up close. Guests can also expect static and dynamic demonstrations from the army and air force, which provide an exciting insight into the diverse career opportunities in the Bundeswehr.

A special highlight will be the ceremony at the Naval Technology School, where recruits will take their ceremonial oath or be sworn in. Such emotions and the pride in the uniforms make Bundeswehr Day a very special experience for everyone present.

The nationwide significance of the event

Bundeswehr Day takes place not only in Stralsund, but at ten other locations throughout Germany. Among other things, Neubrandenburg is part of this event, where the Tollense barracks acts as the main venue. A varied program will be offered here from 9:30 a.m., which includes, among other things, attack demonstrations by the Panzergrenadiers and overflights by military machines. In Neubrandenburg, too, the day is enriched by an offer for the public, as visitors can ride in combat vehicles and try out shooting training simulators.

The Bundeswehr and the communities have been committed to strengthening solidarity for years. In Neubrandenburg, this is made clear by a sponsorship that has existed since 2014, while the city was honored with the “Bundeswehr and Society Prize” in 2021. This shows how important cooperation between the Bundeswehr and civil society is.

Preparations are running quickly and effectively to ensure that Bundeswehr Day is a success and remains in people's memories as an unforgettable event. Everyone is looking forward to June 28th with anticipation and expectation - and the weather, after all, it's supposed to be nice, also contributes to a successful celebration. If you're not there, you're missing out on a lot!
