Wallenstein Days 2025: Spectacle in Stralsund with furious parades!
The anticipation is great! From July 24th to 27th, 2025, the historic old town of Stralsund will once again be transformed into a colorful spectacle: The Wallenstein days, Northern Germany's largest historical folk festival, invite you to a unique experience. This spectacle has been organized since 1991 and has its origins in the 17th century during the Thirty Years' War. It commemorates the resistance of the citizens of Stralsund against the siege by General Wallenstein in 1628.
The entire heart of Stralsund's old town, between the Neuer Markt, the Sundpromenade and the harbor, becomes the scene of a festive market during this time. Visitors can look forward to numerous attractions spread throughout the city center.
Festive highlights
A real highlight will be the traditional parade, which starts on Friday, July 24th at 4 p.m. at the Alter Markt and moves to the Hanse-Wiese. In the evening at 10 p.m. the gruesome plague procession follows, which is reminiscent of the plague of 1629. The Fixed operation continues on Saturday with the equestrian games - a spectacle by Wallenstein's cuirassiers, which is offered several times: on Friday at 9:30 p.m., on Saturday at 1 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. and on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The crowning conclusion is the baroque fireworks display on Saturday at 11 p.m. in front of the town hall facade.
But the Wallenstein Days offer even more: Away from the traditional historical depictions, jugglers, acrobats and minstrels cavort from the Old Market to the Kniepertor. The culinary offerings are also a delight - numerous beer gardens with live music at the fish market and St. Nicholas Church invite you to linger. If you would like to stroll, you will find everything your heart desires on the colorful merchant mile on Semlowerstrasse and the fair on the Alter Markt - from handicraft products to delicious food.
Practical information
Some traffic changes can be expected during the celebrations: From Friday, July 24th at 10 a.m., city center streets such as Knieperstrasse, Schillstrasse and Semlower Strasse will be closed. Access to the Neuer Markt will no longer be possible from Friday at 3 p.m. If you arrive by car, there are various parking garages and parking options available, including the parking garage at the Meereseum, the Maritime Museum and the harbor. There are special parking spaces for visitors with mobile homes, for example at the Rügen Bridge.
The Wallenstein Days are not only a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in history, but also great fun for the whole family. The traditional children's meal and the mockery on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at the Old Market round off the program. Anyone who has experienced the atmosphere of the Wallenstein Days will want to come back!
