The anticipation for the most contemplative time of the year is increasing: in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, tourism businesses are preparing for a busy Christmas season. Around 400,000 overnight guests are expected in December 2025, supplemented by around four million day guests who will visit the region. This number speaks for itself - many are looking forward to a special experience of Christmas magic that lights up the cities and fills the streets with a festive atmosphere. HOGAPAGE reports that the Christmas tree at the Kröpeliner Tor in Rostock has already been set up, with a height of an impressive 20 meters and decorated with sparkling light elements until December 30th.
What would Advent be without Christmas markets? From November 24th, the Christmas markets in Rostock, Schwerin, Wismar and Stralsund will open their doors to visitors. A highlight is the Christmas market in Rostock, which is considered the largest in the north. With attractions such as a gourmet mile, a fairytale forest and even a Ferris wheel, the pedestrian zone becomes a magnet for young and old. The opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday and Saturday until 9:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. This stands out from the festive atmosphere that you can breathe everywhere in the city, reports NDR.
A feast for the senses
The Christmas markets not only invite you with their range of delicacies such as roasted almonds and mulled wine, but also with a colorful sea of lights that make the old towns shine. In Schwerin, the ice skating rink at Pfaffenteich is particularly appreciated by families. There is also a nativity scene exhibition and a fairytale street that delights young and old children alike. The Christmas tree in Schwerin finally shines with more than 10,000 colorful lights until December 30th, immersing the city in a festive atmosphere.
Four Christmas markets are opening in Stralsund, offering everything from a cottage village to a Christmas fair to medieval markets - an ideal opportunity to immerse yourself in the appropriate atmosphere. The craft market in the town hall vault is a very special tip for fans of creative gifts: almost 40 artists show off their skills here. Mecklenburg Western Pomerania also promises a variety of special events and the magic of the Christmas season in many other places.
