Wölbert wins the thriller of the Speedway-DM – youngsters thrilled!
The second final race of the German Speedway Championship took place in Stralsund on August 24, 2025, and spectators could look forward to an exciting duel. Kevin Wölbert, the 36-year-old heir to the throne, once again showed his impressive skills and secured victory, while talented young talent shook up the race. Around 1,000 fans came to experience the fast-paced duels up close, even if some well-known faces, such as Norick Blödorn and Kai Huckenbeck, were missing due to other commitments. Blödorn competed in the European Championships in Leszno, while Huckenbeck did not receive approval from his Polish club, as ostsee-zeitung.de reports.
However, the day belonged to Wölbert, who brilliantly kept his competition at bay. In the first round, Tyler Haupt, just 15 years old, showed his impressive talent and remained undefeated until the third round. The first loss of points for Wölbert came from Janek Konzack, who also performed strongly. Until the fourth round, Wölbert led by one point over Haupt and Patrick Hyjek, who improved his position after a weak performance in Güstrow and ultimately secured second place.
Exciting finale and play-off for the title
In the 20th run there were two jump-offs because several riders were tied on points. Wölbert had to use all his skills to prevail against Hyjek and his challengers. Hyjek, who won in the 17th run, managed to hold his own in the play-off against Wölbert, who, however, didn't miss a beat in the final play-off for the day's victory and secured first place. Valentin Grobauer proved to be a tough opponent and finished in third place, after an exciting duel with Lars Skupien, who also rode well and fought his way to fourth place.
