Additional trains to the Baltic Sea: summer holiday trips for all nature lovers!

In the coming summer holidays, the connection between Berlin and the Baltic Sea will become even more attractive. The RE3 line receives from VBB additional trains offered on Saturdays and Sundays from July 26th to September 7th, 2023. This meets the high demand on this popular route, which has been part of the seasonal offers since Easter 2023.

Anyone traveling in the region should not miss the additional trains. These offer space for around 270 passengers and start at 9:34 a.m. from Berlin Gesundbrunnen towards Pasewalk, where they arrive at 10:58 a.m. The return journey takes place at 5:09 p.m. from Pasewalk to Berlin Gesundbrunnen, with an arrival at 6:51 p.m. On these trips, the train connection is supplemented by stops in Bernau, Eberswalde, Angermünde, Prenzlau, Britz and Chorin.

Connections and connection options

During the summer holidays, the RE3 commutes every two hours from Berlin via Angermünde, Züssow and Greifswald to Stralsund. There is also an additional train on Fridays at 5:06 p.m. from Berlin Gesundbrunnen to Pasewalk, which also offers a connection to the RE10 to Stralsund. For travelers with destinations in Eberswalde, Britz, Chorin or Angermünde, trips to Schwedt (Oder) and the RB24 are a practical and recommended alternative.

Bicycle transport made easy

Summertime attracts many cyclists because, after all, the bicycle is the first choice for many people to get to their destination in an environmentally friendly way. The railway has adapted to this demand. The DB Regional gives some important tips for taking bikes on the train. It should be noted that bicycle transport may be limited, especially on heavily frequented lines such as RE5 and RE3.

Particular attention should be paid to peak times: Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., trains are often full. Sunday afternoons and evenings are also popular times to travel. If you travel with your own bike, you should also consider getting a bike license - the VBB 24-hour card is used regularly by many passengers.

Rental bikes that are already available in various cities are particularly practical. This relaxed solution saves space and stress on the train and can be found via the “DB Excursion” app. In short, if you prepare well in advance and plan well, you will have a wonderful time exploring the landscape of northern Germany during your summer holidays.

A look into the future

And that's not all: From December 2025, a new daily RE30 line will be introduced between Angermünde and Stralsund every two hours. This means you can continue to be mobile and the connection to the Baltic Sea will be even better. It is advisable to provide up-to-date information about departure times and possible construction sites in the electronic timetable information DB, VBB and VMV apps to check.
