Tropical heat in MV: thunderstorm front approaching – be careful!
What an interplay of elements! Today, July 2, 2025, the signs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania point to extreme temperatures followed by violent thunderstorms. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a heat warning saying that maximum temperatures will be between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. At the sea the temperatures fluctuate between 29 and 36 degrees Celsius, which is particularly a challenge for city dwellers and older people. The DWD appeals to everyone to drink enough water and keep indoors cool. The warning comes into force when temperatures exceed 32 degrees and the nights do not contribute to cooling, as Ostsee-Zeitung reports.
But the heat is only the harbinger of a huge upheaval. From around 4 p.m. there is a warning of severe thunderstorms that will move with a cold front from the Benelux countries to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Heavy rain and thunderstorms can be expected, especially in West Mecklenburg. The forecasts suggest that it could rain between 20 and 40 liters per square meter per hour. There may also be gusts of wind with speeds of up to 80 km/h. Citizens are urged to avoid spending time outdoors to stay safe, as falling trees and falling objects could pose a lurking threat to the roads.

Health risks from heat
But it's not just thunderstorms and rain that are troubling people in the region. Heat stress itself also poses a serious health risk German Weather Service issues heat warnings for days when there is a risk to health. The criteria for the warnings take into account exposure throughout the day and at night, although sensitive people can also suffer on hot days without official warnings. The coming days promise weather conditions that could literally cause many surprises. It remains to be hoped that all citizens will get through these extreme weather events well and follow the recommendations of the weather services.
