Discover SILKesKLEINEkunst”: Emotional painting in Wismar!
A very special feast for the eyes awaits art lovers in Wismar. The exhibition “SILKesKLEINEkunst: UNFAULTED EXPERIENCE” by the talented artist Silke Kleine opened its doors at the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest on December 4, 2025. The impressive 39 works can be admired in the Am Markt office. Using a mixture of acrylic on canvas, oil, pastels and spatula work, the 56-year-old artist from Hohen Viecheln shows that her artistic work only began in 2024. Her goal is to gently touch the viewer, give them a feeling of deceleration and encourage them. The exhibition can be seen until January 21, 2026 and can be visited during the Sparkasse's regular opening hours.
Silke Kleine, who originally trained as a business clerk, surprises with her artistic turn and shows that it is never too late to live out your passion. Her works are an expression of emotions and offer visitors an invitation to reflect and pause. “Life is like a canvas, you just have to have the courage to paint on it,” you could say – and that’s exactly what she does with flying colors.
A look beyond the art scene
But art is not only important in Wismar. There are also exciting developments in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region. The Mecklenburg Insurance Group Art Prize, which promotes contemporary art from the region, is being awarded for the tenth time. The award ceremony and the simultaneous exhibition opening will take place on June 23rd. This prize is not only endowed with 10,000 euros, but also a valuable recognition for creative minds. To be nominated, the artists must either live in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania or have had their creative center there for at least three years.
Five artists are up for selection this year, including representatives such as Wilko Hänsch from Hohen Viecheln, who is fascinated by the original landscape through abstract painting, and Christin Wilcken from Rostock, who deals with the perception of nature. Rozbeh Asmani, Hendrik Silbermann and Bernd Kerkin also applied for the renowned art prize with their works. This diversity of talent is also reflected in the exhibition “Five Positions of the Present”, which is open until September 1st and can be visited Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There is a lively art scene not only in Wismar, but also in the surrounding area, which offers artists a platform to present their works and share them with the public. A good reason to take a look inside soon and have inspiring art experiences!
