New hotspot Dustense opens in the middle of Wismarer construction sites!
In the middle of a large construction site, the "Dustense" dining room in Wismar has opened its doors. In the middle of the old town, between torn streets, trenches and hard -working construction workers, the operators Marcel Fischer and his friends got to work. "It was a good time to look for a new location, because the old one in Lübschen Strasse was no longer portable," explains Fischer. The opening of the new restaurant is not only a welcome enrichment for the city, but also a ray of hope for the residents who currently have to endure the construction noise and the detour of the traffic. According to a report by the Ostsee newspaper, the entire construction site is expected to be in full swing by summer 2026.
Gastronomy in Wismar has to fight with challenges. Access to the dining room is currently via the Großschmiedestrasse and the corner of Turmstraße/Schaatterau, as the parking lot on Turmstrasse is closed. "We sat down with the builders and found a solution to put tables and chairs right outside the door," said Fischer. Despite the adverse circumstances that bring about the construction work, there is hope for a lively operation in the new restaurant, which offers a selection of seven beers - including six from the barrel - as well as snacks such as oven potatoes and cauliflower soup.
renovation measures in the city
The opening of the "Dustense" is part of a larger urban planning plan that is currently being pursued in Wismar. The city has presented ambitious renovation plans worth around 3.5 million euros. Among other things, this includes the application for 2.7 million euros in funding from the citizens, while 700,000 euros must come from urban funds. These initiatives also include renovation work on important buildings such as the Sankt-Nikolai church and the town hall cellar. In the old town, 600,000 euros are also planned for the renovation of privately used houses to subject over 150 houses in Wismar to an urgently needed facelift, reports the NDR.
The support for these projects is part of an ongoing commitment in urban development, which has been in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 1991. Over 120 cities and municipalities are committed to not only increasing the quality of life, but also increasing the attractiveness of the inner cities as place of residence and work, as the government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania records.
look into the future
In the entire area of the construction project, a comprehensive improvement in living conditions is the top goal. Work on the streets in the third quarter of 2026 is expected to be completed, which could give gastronomy and the trade in the region a new momentum. Marcel Fischer hopes that the dining room will last, especially through the good ratings that it has already received!
"We want people to come to us and not put the construction work off," says Fischer. After all, the "frequency" is not only a place of enjoyment, but also a place where community and conviviality should be felt. A dialogue with the city was recently created about advertising options in order to increase the visibility of the dining room despite the current difficulties.
In summary, it can be said that Wismar is currently facing many challenges, but also uses the opportunities that are offered by the renovation measures. The balancing act between construction work and the preservation of a lively catering scene is not easy, but with commitment and foresight, the goal of creating an attractive and worth living in can become reality.Details | |
