Something is happening in the heart of Wolgast - and it will have a significant impact on the plans for the coming years. Construction work began on Amselweg on October 6, 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by May 2027. As the Baltic Sea newspaper reported that the work was temporarily stopped due to staff shortages. Construction work is scheduled to resume tomorrow, October 9, 2023, at 7 a.m.
The aim of this extensive renovation measure is to replace the outdated pipe and sewer systems in Amselweg. Not only the wastewater sewer but also the drinking water pipe, which no longer meets today's technical standards, is taken into account. In addition, professional rainwater drainage will be installed to prevent future flooding. Once the work is completed, residents can look forward to new cables, modern street lighting and green plant islands and parking areas.
Construction work and traffic disruptions
During the construction work, the Amselweg will remain closed, and the Tannenkampweg will also be temporarily closed in order to connect new wastewater and rainwater canals. The total costs of the project amount to an impressive 692,000 euros. Interestingly, this construction project is part of the 2024 to 2026 investment budget, which shows that Wolgast is investing in the future.

Resident discussions took place in December 2024, and residents were amazed at the different expansion options they were given to choose from.
Expansion measures in detail
A total of three variants of expansion were presented, although approval among residents varied:
- Variante 1: 17,86% Zustimmung – Ausbau der gesamten Verkehrsfläche mit Gehwegen in Pflasterbauweise.
- Variante 2: 46,43% Zustimmung – Mischverkehrsfläche in Pflasterbauweise, angenehme Baumstandorte zur Verkehrsberuhigung.
- Variante 3: 35,71% Zustimmung – breite Fahrbahnen und öffentliche Parkflächen.
All three variants provide for adequate surface drainage. The implementation planning will be completed by the end of February 2025, followed by the procurement process at the end of March and the award of the contract in May.
In summary, it can be said that the construction work on Amselweg is an exciting project for Wolgast that will not only improve the infrastructure, but also significantly increase the quality of life of the residents.
