Two devastating fires in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 400,000 euros in damage!
Last night, two single-family homes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania went up in flames. On Friday evening, November 1st, 2025, the fire on Elisabethstrasse in Güstrow was reported around 7 p.m. When the fire brigades from Güstrow, Lüssow-Karow and Karcheez arrived, the building was already fully engulfed in flames. The 87-year-old resident, who lit a candle and briefly left the room, suffered smoke inhalation and had to be taken to hospital. Fortunately, the flames didn't give his home a chance - the house is now uninhabitable and the damage is estimated at around 200,000 euros.
The police have started an investigation on suspicion of negligent arson. Two hours later, another alarm followed in Anklam, Vorpommer-Greifswald district. A fire broke out on the upper floor of a single-family home, which was quickly extinguished by the fire department. The residents who were able to leave the building in time were uninjured, but the material damage here also amounts to around 200,000 euros. The Anklam criminal police are also investigating the cause of the fire.
Previous fire events in the region
Previous incidents in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have already shown a shocking picture of the dangers that fire poses. On August 20, 2025, a single-family home in the Rostock district burned down completely. The material damage at the time amounted to around 500,000 euros, as two adjacent properties were also affected. The fire broke out in the sauna of the house and spread through a carport, but was quickly brought under control by the fire department. The family of three was very lucky and was able to leave their home without any injuries.
The current situation shows us how important fire protection is and what risks even small carelessness can bring. We hope that those affected get back on their feet as quickly as possible and that the investigation to clarify the causes of the fire progresses quickly.
