New Budni drugstore opens at Stuttgart Airport – 10,000 items!
There is a new highlight for travelers and visitors at Stuttgart Airport: The drugstore chain Budni opened its first branch at the airport at the beginning of July 2025. With a generous sales area of 180 square meters and a range of around 10,000 items, the new Budni branch in Terminal 3, Arrivals Level, is well equipped to meet the needs of travelers. From toothpaste and cosmetics in travel sizes to snacks and drinks - everyone can find the essentials for their trip here. Esslinger Zeitung reports that the opening hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily are ideal for airport visitors.
The target group is not just limited to passengers - the Budni branch is also aimed at the approximately 10,000 employees on the airport premises. Through the cooperation with Edeka, which has existed since 2017, the opening of the Budni branch is marketed as “Budni – powered by Edeka Jäger”. This partnership expands the offering of the Edeka Jäger store opposite, which previously only offered a small selection of drugstore items. NTZ highlights that the Edeka branch at the airport was opened in 2016 and operates a total of six locations in the Stuttgart area.
A market in transition
The opening of Budni at Stuttgart Airport comes against the backdrop of increasing competition in the drugstore market. The dm chain recently expanded its market share to 26.8 percent and is planning extensive investments in new branches and a revised store image. With sales of 12.4 billion euros and a sales increase of 9.5 percent in the 2023/24 financial year, the drugstore giant shows that it likes to break new ground and increasingly respond to the needs of its customers. So dm not only puts classic products on the shelf, but also focuses on organic food and a strong online presence with more than 1,500 pickup stations. Food practice informed about the company's strategies.
With the opening of the Budni branch at Stuttgart Airport, the dynamics in the drugstore market will be further fueled. The mix of travel essentials and everyday needs not only promises travelers a practical solution, but also gives local employees a convenient shopping option that is now better suited to the requirements of a modern airport. The development shows that the need for a wide range of products is growing even in this fast-moving environment and that more travelers are relying on practical solutions to make their journey easier.
