Drunk driver sleeps in the car: police strike!
In a current case from Aurich, a 32-year-old driver is causing a stir. How Sat1 Regional Reportedly, the man was discovered by police at night, lying asleep in his car on the side of the road, with loud music playing in the background. The officers received information about the sleeping driver and took immediate action.
When checked, the driver stated that he had pulled over to the side of the road himself. However, an alcohol test showed a level of 1.5 per mille - a value that has clear legal consequences in Germany. At 1.1 per mille, there is absolute inability to drive and from 1.6 per mille, a medical-psychological examination (MPU) is required to regain your driving license, informs ADAC.
The consequences for the driver
For the 32-year-old, this not only means the loss of his driving license, which was temporarily confiscated, but also the threat of being prosecuted for drunk driving. You should therefore think carefully about taking it easy when driving, because the legal consequences are significant - with a blood alcohol content of 0.3 per mille you can be considered unfit to drive if there are symptoms of failure. For drivers under the age of 21 or in the probationary period, there is even an absolute alcohol ban of 0.0 per mille, it explains Yusora.
What happens if you cause an accident while under the influence of alcohol? In such cases, the insurance company can pay for damages, but can assert claims for recourse against the driver. With fully comprehensive insurance, payment depends not only on the circumstances of the accident, but also on the alcohol content in the blood.
Correct behavior on the side of the road
It is especially in situations like these that it becomes clear how important responsible behavior on the road is. If you may have partied too much at night, you should take a taxi or public transport. The safety of all road users has top priority. A quiet evening can quickly turn into an expensive and momentous adventure - and that doesn't just apply to the sleeping driver from Aurich!
The police are now continuing to investigate the 32-year-old. Incidents like this make it clear that drinking and driving simply don't mix. This makes it all the more important to know the legal regulations and to act in your own interest.
