Mysterious bicycle accident in Braunschweig: witnesses urgently sought!

A mysterious accident in Braunschweig raises questions. On September 7, a 24-year-old man woke up in his own bed after being injured during the night and couldn't remember anything. The subsequent investigation revealed that he was hospitalized with significant injuries, including a concussion and a bruised elbow that required surgery. His bike was badly damaged and was later found in the yard of his apartment. This is reported by the People's voice.

The young man was on his way home in the early hours of the morning and was on the bike path on Hansestrasse when the incident happened. His memory only lasts until between 3 and 5 a.m., so the circumstances of the accident remain unclear. Police initially suspected that someone might have injured him and brought him home, but this theory could not be confirmed and the investigation was closed.

Accident report and witness call

The cyclist reported the incident to police on September 9th. It turned out that his journey had been recorded with a tracking app, which meant that the scene of the accident could obviously be identified near the entrance to the A2. The driver's personal belongings were also found near the suspected scene of the accident. This indicates that another vehicle or person may have been involved. The police are now urgently looking for witnesses and the person who may have helped the biker after his fall. Anyone who has seen anything should call 0531/476-3935 News38 reported.

Accidents involving cyclists, especially those involving no external influence, are an increasing problem. According to a study by insurers' accident research (UDV), cyclists are increasingly having accidents without the involvement of other road users. In 2023, approximately 27,400 cycling accidents without anyone else involved were recorded, resulting in 6,400 serious injuries and 147 deaths. The risk increases particularly between December and February due to poor weather conditions, such as wetness, ice and snow. The daily news reports that around every second cycling accident involving serious injuries is a solo accident, which could show that external influences cannot be ruled out in the 24-year-old's case either.

The analysis of cycling accidents shows that the condition of the infrastructure is often cited as the cause. Many cyclists view curbs and other elements as dangerous. The UDV therefore calls for these danger points at crossings to be eliminated. In our case, it remains to be seen whether there will be any new information about the mysterious incident.
