Soundful Baroque Night: Bach and Handel in the Celle City Church!

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the town church in Celle will be the venue for a musical highlight. Under the title “an(ge)dacht” the voices of the ensemble around soprano Kerstin Weise, recorder player Gerald Splitt and organist Elisabeth Michaelis will be heard at 12 p.m. The program includes important works from baroque music that promise true praise of the creator. The texts for the event come from Volkmar Latossek and impressively complement the complex musical language.

The selection of compositions should also make the hearts of classical music lovers beat faster. Works by greats such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann will be performed. These three composers shaped baroque music and created works that have lost none of their appeal to this day. Bach in particular, whose music is known for its complex structure and deep harmony, is considered one of the greatest composers in music history.

The highlights of the Baroque

The importance of baroque music should not be underestimated. It spans the years from 1600 to 1750 and is characterized by its ornate style and complex harmonies. This era introduced a variety of instruments and gave rise to new music-making techniques that were further developed in later eras such as the Classical and Romantic periods. Baroque music is not only performed again and again in concerts, but also influences modern musical styles including jazz and pop.

Parallel to the musical activities in Celle, another remarkable concert will take place on Eternal Sunday, November 24th, in the baroque church in Sehnde-Ilten. The Baroque ensemble Ilten presents a similar program with works by Bach, Handel, Telemann and even Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The concert is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. and last about 75 minutes. Here, too, a strong interpretation of Bach's 1st Brandenburg Concerto and excerpts from Handel's oratorio “Messiah” is expected.

An experience for young and old

Particularly exciting for families: Childcare is offered in the community center for the second part of the concert, so that parents can enjoy the music without distraction. Admission is also free, although donations are requested at the exit. Such initiatives not only promote cultural participation, but also show how important it is to make classical music accessible to a wide audience.

These events make it clear that the legacy of Baroque music is alive and continues to delight generations of music lovers. Anyone who is in Celle or Sehnde this weekend should not miss the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of baroque sounds and experience the harmony of music and words.
