Lightning start: Kickers Emden celebrates its first win of the season with 3-0!
Things went haywire in the Ostfrieslandstadion on August 10, 2025, when Kickers Emden played against Bremer SV. After two defeats in the regional league and another defeat in the cup, coach Stefan Emmerling's team had an eventful day ahead of them. The first points of the season were finally to be scored, and the 1,450 spectators were able to celebrate the early lead in the first minute.
Tido Steffens, the captain from the previous season, immediately showed his class and scored after just 23 seconds. In excerpts, Steffens simply described his goal as “just putting it in”. This quick action seemed to hit a “reset button” that got the team into the right rhythm, said Emmerling about what happened.
Dominance over the entire duration of the game
The Kickers were the team that dominated the game from the start. Further chances were not long in coming: Nick Stepantsev with a shot that Bremen goalkeeper Pascal Manitz was able to defuse in the 17th minute, and Mika Eickschläger, who missed the goal in the 23rd minute. In the 32nd minute, Marten Schmidt increased the score to 2-0 after Steffens and Stepantsev had also done the preparatory work. There was a very clear trend: Emden dominated and the spectators couldn't stop cheering.
The first half brought another dangerous shot from Eickhoff from 25 meters, which Manitz was able to parry. With another header from Stepantsev shortly before the break, which missed the target, we went to the dressing rooms. Everything was ready for an exciting second half that would further strengthen the Kickers' momentum.
Dampening Bremen's attack efforts
The second half started promisingly: Bremer SV tried to get into the game, but Noel Werner failed in the 47th minute. However, Emden did not allow themselves to be disturbed and increased the score to 3-0 in the 50th minute through Stepantsev, who was again assisted by Steffens. Despite Bremen's efforts later in the game, where they were stopped by Quindt in the Emden goal, among others, there was no reason for Emden to fear - the defense held firm.
The fans rewarded the team with chants and shouted “Everything is under control again – no panic on the Titanic”. Coach Emmerling had every reason to be happy and praised his players, albeit with a note of patience. “You have to have the patience to build on these types of games,” he explained after the final whistle.
A look at the history of Kickers Emden
The Kickers Emden look back on an eventful history that began after the Second World War. From the Amateuroberliga Niedersachsen-West to promotion to the Regionalliga Nord, the club's development shows ups and downs. The club, which was founded in 1946 and whose colors are blue and white, has repeatedly reinvented itself over the years. Most recently, the team was able to attract attention with a place in the Lower Saxony Oberliga and qualified for the promotion round to the regional league.
With the premiere in the new regional league this weekend, and after a challenging preparation phase, the win against Bremer SV was the hoped-for beginning. Emden's fans can look forward to a return to their old strength, which will certainly not only be characterized by Tido Steffens, who was the best scorer last season with 19 goals. The team knows how to drive the spectators and create emotions - and that is what makes football so much more than just a game for many.
