Emden, Deutschland - The dragon boat regatta in Emden was again an event this year that captivated the audience. On June 29, 2025, the event took place as part of the Emder Hafenmile, the largest sports event on the water in northwestern Germany. With 36 participating teams, including the Emden Running Community (ELG) for the first time, the regatta was a complete success. The Elg Dragons were able to win a victory at their premiere in the fun class.
The exciting final of the premier class, in which ten bank boats competed, became the heart of the day. The Sporting Dragons secured the title that they previously had to hand over to ERV dike dynamics. With a time of 1: 06.18 minutes, the team cut off in second place just before ERV Deich dynamics, which came in second place with 1: 06.50 minutes. There were also eagerly fighting for prices in the side competitions: the award for the longest journey to a team from Poznan, while the Vigo Minions presented the best costume.
The awards for outstanding services were also awarded: "Drum Doc" by the Kankenhuus Draken was the best drummer and the SchlachSruf-Prize went to BBS II. The race of the companies won Fopac Dragons in the five bank category, while Sparkasse Emden was successful in the ten bank category. The Likedeeler celebrated a remarkable comeback in the sports class, while vocational schools II took third place in this category.
A look at the next harbor mile
The preparations for the next Hafen mile are already underway. The event will take place again on August 17, 2024, and the number of participants will be even higher with 44 dragon boat teams and over 700 athletes than this year. Volunteers, more than 50 in number, are busy making the event smoothly. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. with a Captains meeting and the first race at 10:00 a.m.
Interesting duels such as the port duel and debtual are already announced on schedule. The final runs are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., followed by a award ceremony at 5:00 p.m. and a paddler party with DJ from 5:30 p.m. The organizers are the Emden Rowing Association, the city of Emden and the Sparkasse Emden, who hold up the anticipation for the event.
The German Dragon Bootsport Association (DDV) has already started long -term preparation for the 2025 World Championships for dragon boat athletes. This is aimed at participants of all ages and takes place with both standard and small boats. Interested athletes can apply until November 30, 2024 to become part of this preparation.
