An unforgettable holiday adventure: 39 travelers explore East Frisia!
On October 28, 2025, 39 members of the Sarzbüttel-Odderade social association went on an exciting multi-day trip to East Frisia. The trip started promisingly with a convivial champagne breakfast, which immediately put the participants in the holiday mood. On the way, canals, locks, bascule bridges as well as charming gulf farms, mills and old brick churches offered a charming sight.
The first stop was Wiesmoor, the youngest town in East Frisia. The freshly planted and decorated flower hall could be admired here. Despite the adverse weather conditions - heavy rain and wind - the participants took a walk through the theme garden park and enjoyed the fresh air.
Day after day – experiences without end
The trip continued to a family-run hotel in Großheide, where the participants could relax after an eventful day. On the second day Emden was on the agenda. With the help of a tour guide, the visitors explored the city, which is not only known for its crooked church tower in the world in Suurhusen, but also for the comedian Otto Waalkes and his “Dat Otto Hus”. A city tour and a walking tour offered numerous interesting insights into the history of the city.
The Krummhörn tour along the coast was particularly attractive. Here the travelers were able to visit the terp village of Rysum and admire the oldest playable organ in Germany. After another walk in Greetsiel, the group returned to the hotel to prepare for the next exciting day.
On the third day, a trip to the island of Norderney was on the agenda. The group took the ship from Norddeich-Mole to explore the island. The island tour by bus and the subsequent free time offered plenty of opportunity to enjoy the nature and atmosphere of Norderney.
Special highlights of the trip
Another highlight was the visit to the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg on the fourth day. Here the participants were given an insight into shipbuilding and were able to marvel at the new Disney Destiny, which was due to leave the shipyard the following day. Afterwards there was a city tour of Leer, which included the old town and the museum harbor. A sweet highlight was the tea ceremony with the famous East Frisian cake, which sweetened the afternoon.
The fifth and final day took the group back home with a break in Bad Zwischenahn. During a boat trip on the Zwischenahner Meer there was enough time to stroll and relax. The successful trip ended with a celebratory final dinner in Sarzbüttel, in which the bus driver also played a key role in making this tour unforgettable.
