The anticipation for the “Long Night at the Maritime Campus” is increasing in Leer! On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the campus on Bergmannstrasse will be transformed into a lively festival of science and culture from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. The event is organized by the Maritime and Maritime Sciences Department at Emden/Leer University of Applied Sciences, the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES and MARIKO GmbH. The aim is to offer everyone, from young to old, an exciting insight into the maritime world. The event also coincides with the summer solstice, which creates a particularly festive setting.
What can visitors expect? Your physical well-being is taken care of with a colorful selection of food and drinks. Homemade cakes, Arabic street food, freshly tapped beer and cocktails are waiting to be tried. There will also be a varied supporting program with live music, with bands such as “BWTS”, “The Chucks”, “Black Pearls” and “Umbrella Sky” ensuring the atmosphere. The highlight of the evening are the various hands-on activities, which offer lots of fun for both young and old guests.
Discoveries and activities for the whole family
The event offers much more than just culinary delights. Venues such as the Maritime Technical Center or the Wadden Sea Laboratory invite you to discover them. Here children can learn from other little researchers during guided tours. There will be exciting shows in the planetarium, and the student waterbike racing team will present its pedal boat “Eyeball”. Maritime craft activities are also part of the program so that the creativity of the youngest visitors can be encouraged.
The lectures by experts who speak on various maritime topics are particularly exciting. These range from safety aspects on ships to information about the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People or the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park Administration. The #Gemeinsamschifffahrt initiative and WISTA Germany will also be represented and provide insights into the various professional fields in the maritime industry.
