Threat of violence in Emden: Police take 39-year-old into custody!

Last Saturday afternoon, a 39-year-old was taken into custody in Emden city center after he threatened a 52-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man with violence. The incident occurred at 4:37 p.m. on Am Delft street, near number 10. Despite the police's quick response, the man could not be calmed down and continued his threats while claiming to be under the influence of alcohol.

This is the second such incident in Emden within a week. On Tuesday, October 21st, a 22-year-old threatened three employees with violence in a grocery store on Neuer Markt. The young man only left the supermarket after the police arrived. This series of threats raises questions about the current security situation in the city and has prompted police to conduct a wider investigation. The recent events are in the context of a general increase in violent crime, which, according to the Federal Criminal Police Office's police crime statistics, rose by 1.5% to 217,277 cases in 2024, which is the highest level since 2007.

Security situation in Germany

Looking at the crime situation overall, the 2024 police crime statistics show that violent crime shows a worrying trend, while general crimes in Germany were reduced by 1.7%. This decline is mainly due to the partial legalization of cannabis, which led to a significant decrease in related crimes. Without this positive influence, there would have been a slight increase in crimes.

The increase in violent crime is also underpinned by the increase in suspected children and young people (11.3% and 3.8% respectively). In addition, the number of non-German suspects rose by 7.5% to 85,012. In addition to the threats in Emden, this is an indication that the general conditions for public security in Germany are becoming more severe overall.

The relevance of social media

As violent crime and threats increase in society, communication via social media such as WhatsApp can also play a role. WhatsApp Web offers users the opportunity to use the messaging service directly in the browser on a computer. This is particularly useful for people who spend a lot of time on the PC. It allows you to exchange messages, send documents and use functions such as group chats and stickers without having to install additional apps. The possible uses are extensive and do not only work via mobile devices.

If you would like to know how you can use WhatsApp Web, here is a brief overview: Simply scan the QR code on the WhatsApp website to establish the connection with your cell phone. Certainly a simple procedure that makes communication easier!
