After a decade in the caretaker's house and over a year and a half in the container where students ate their lunch, this unconventional era is coming to an end. When the new building opens, the elementary school will receive a modern cafeteria, which will be operational from the fall break of 2023. The newly built extension to the primary school has an impressive gross floor area of approx1,750 square metersand will be constructed in the southeastern area of the existing building. The new rooms will be directly connected to the existing foyer. The main entrance will also be moved to the Sielweg side, which should improve access to the school for all users. Barrier-free access will be available from summer 2024. The city of Emden emphasizes that the cafeteria has space forup to 150 eaters in two shiftswill offer and will be equipped with a modern kitchen using the Cook & Chill method.
Construction progress and planning
The interior work is currently in full swing: drywall, tiling, painting, electrical and plumbing installations are in progress. The exterior facade is almost complete, and work on the exterior facilities, including the entrances to the new building, is scheduled to be completed by September 2023.
