VW starts recall of 16,000 electric cars - safety risk for drivers!

A recall has recently caused a stir among VW drivers in Lower Saxony: The car manufacturer is recalling around 16,000 electric cars due to potentially life-threatening defects in passenger airbags. The affected models include the Passat, Taigo, Polo, ID.7, ID.7 Tourer and the popular ID.Buzz. What is particularly striking is the fact that the ID.7 is considered the most popular electric car in Germany and is manufactured in Emden. The recall could pose challenges for some drivers, particularly as it comes just before the summer holidays, which could potentially affect holiday planning.

The reason for this recall is due to a safety risk that can occur when the front passenger airbag is deployed: there is a risk that the gas generator housing could rupture, which can lead to serious injuries or, in the worst case, death. To be on the safe side, VW recommends that all vehicle owners do not use the passenger seat until repairs are made or to temporarily deactivate the airbag. The repair is carried out free of charge in authorized workshops and takes between one and three hours, depending on the model. To date, there are no known accidents associated with these faulty airbags, and it is important to emphasize that this recall is not related to the previous Takata airbag problems.

Details about the recall

VW's recall not only affects the electric cars popular in Germany, but also vehicles that are affected worldwide - over 16,500 units in total, according to autozeitung.de. It should be noted that the affected airbags are not related to the dangerous Takata airbags, which have caused major recalls in the past. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has not yet published any information about the situation, but letters have already been sent to the affected owners asking them to make an appointment.

Additionally, it is clear that VW has issued several recalls in the recent past, including:

Finally, it should be noted that even if this recall appears worrying at first glance, the measures required to resolve the problem have been well thought out by VW. This means vehicle owners can be assured that their health and safety is a top priority. In view of the situation, affected drivers should now pay particular attention to contacting their authorized workshop as soon as possible.
