75 years DRK Göttingen-Northeim: Voluntary reports of missions!

The German Red Cross (DRK) District Association Göttingen-Northeim is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. From the beginnings after the Second World War to the present day, the association has extended across almost all southern Lower Saxony and played an important role in society. With over 10,000 members and 1,000 active helpers, the DRK is not only an important provider of first aid courses and support offers in daycare centers, but also a central actor in disaster protection and in the personal information.

To celebrate this impressive occasion, the DRK district association invites you to a family festival that will take place on Zimmermannstrasse 4 in Göttingen on June 21 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The festival not only offers a colorful supporting program with simulation of a traffic accident, vehicle presentations and hands -on activities for children, but also the opportunity to learn more about the valuable volunteer work in the DRK and their diverse offers.

commitment and commitment

Volunteering plays a central role in the DRK. Volunteers support people in need and bring in their individual skills. No membership in the DRK is required to become active. Interested people can participate in various communities such as the willingness, the mountain rescue, the water guard and the youth red cross. Children from the age of six have the opportunity to be active in the youth red cross and thus make their contribution to the community.

Sigrid Heinemann and Torsten Dunemann are committed members of the DRK for two long years. Heinemann, who has been active since 1989 and is currently heading the person information office, reported on her experience in the area of evacuations in bomb clearing in Göttingen, to which she actively contributed in 2010 and 2021. Dunemann, who has been working in the DRK since 1982, began his career in the Youth Red Cross. He went through different positions and was used, among other things, at the train accident in Northeim in 1992.

A look into the future

The DRK goes over time. The tasks of the person information office due to digital developments are becoming increasingly important. In the event of war, it becomes an official information office, which collects data on emergency services and affected people. This shows how dynamic and adaptable the DRK is.

In addition, the DRK offers numerous opportunities for young people to do voluntary service worldwide. In many countries such as Israel, Italy, Peru or Vietnam, interested parties can bring their skills and experiences in different areas, whether in social, medical or cultural sector. If you fancy an exciting time abroad, you can find out about this on the official pages of the DRK.

The 75th anniversary of the DRK district association Göttingen-Northeim is not only an occasion for the celebration, but also a look back at the valuable work that is done. The upcoming family festival offers an excellent opportunity to find out more and become part of this important organization.
