General meeting of the Weserbergland University of Applied Sciences: Continuity and visions for the future!
The Weserbergland University of Applied Sciences recently had great reason to be happy: At the general meeting of the supporting association of the Weserbergland University of Applied Sciences, not only were the board and auditors elected on a rotating basis, but positive developments for the coming years were also presented. Holger Stöcker from Sparkasse Hameln-Weserbergland will then remain chairman of the association. Verena Liane Ottermann from Lenze SE was elected as his deputy, while Stefan Pospich from Hachenberg Pospich & Partner was confirmed as treasurer.
These important personnel decisions were made by HSW President Prof. Dr. Peter Britz, who warmly congratulated those re-elected, saw it as a sign of continuity. He also highlighted the role the sponsoring association plays for the university. The Weserbergland University, which was founded in 1989 as a vocational academy, has developed into a sought-after educational location in Lower Saxony since its state recognition in 2010, with currently around 470 students and around 55 employees, including 16 professors.
Outlook for the future of the university
Holger Stöcker provided information about the successes of the class of 2024 and the exciting plans for 2025. The university is planning a close cooperation with the Kolping University for Health and Social Affairs in Cologne, while eleven students have already started the new dual degree program in social work. A digital campus will also be launched in September 2026, which will, among other things, offer an expanded online library. This shows that the university has a good knack for innovative educational offerings.
The Minister of Science and Culture, Falko Mohrs, also paid a visit to the university, which underlines the importance of the institution in the region. The commitment to research is reinforced by successful projects, such as a feasibility study on hydrogen production in Emmerthal and a battery storage study in collaboration with the Hameln-Weserbergland municipal utilities. In addition, six funding projects were presented that will further support the growth of the university.
A look at the research possibilities
The university is known for its interdisciplinary research approaches. Institutes for knowledge management, energy and educational support programs are available to you. Of particular note is the Center for Digital Transformation and New Work, also known as zedita, which acts as an innovation hub for new learning and working methods. The integration of modern technologies and new ideas is a central concern for the university in order to provide students with the best possible education, while specialists and managers can also benefit from part-time programs.
As part of international cooperation, partnerships with universities from China, Japan, Singapore and other countries are on the agenda. The first trip to Oman is planned for the end of January 2026, underlining the university's global ambitions.
In addition, the university supports committed talents through various scholarships, including the Germany Scholarship and the Rotarian Scholarship. The structural infrastructure is not neglected either: renovation work for the third floor will be carried out from January 2026. In this way, the Weserbergland University shows that it not only has the present in mind, but also the future.
With a clear focus on high-quality education, innovative research and a strong networked community, Weserbergland University is on the right track to continue to play a central role in Lower Saxony's educational landscape. For anyone interested, this could be the place to get started.
