Dr. Astrid Klaßen: Fresh wind at the top of the Hildesheim Medical Association!

In the Lower Saxony Medical Association (akn), there are exciting changes - especially in the Hildesheim district office. On July 9, 2025, the new board came together for the first constituent meeting, and Dr. med. Astrid Klassen was elected as the new chairman. This election took place as part of the board elections, which were carried out in the eleven district offices of the EKN from April 23 to May 7, 2025. In Hildesheim there was a choice of peace in which the 1,652 doctors in the district stood behind the candidates.

dr. med. Klassen succeeds Dr. med. Dorothea Mordeja, who has held office since 2015 and no longer competed for election. The new board is made up of seven members, including Dr. med. Dietrich Warneboldt, who was again elected deputy chairman. The other members are Stefan Brunotte, Dr. med. Dorothea Mordeja, Dr. med. Bernd Schüttrumpf, Dr. med. Joachim Thum and Dr. med. Hartmut Volkmann.

focus on medical training

A central concern of the new chairperson is to strengthen medical training, especially in the outpatient area. "There is still a lot of potential here that we have to lift," said Dr. Klaßen. She hopes for a more intensive dialogue between hospital doctors and resident doctors. Other important topics of the upcoming term include the health literacy of the patients and the information about relevant health aspects-such as the effects of heat periods or HPV vaccination.

The district office in Hildesheim, which includes the cities of Hildesheim, Alfeld and the Hildesheim district, sees itself as a central point of contact for the medical community. Here you not only organize further training, but also support doctors and advise members on professional questions. According to the Klinikum Braunschweig, the akn is the self-management organization for over 40,000 doctors in Lower Saxony.

Change on the board of the medical association

On September 25, 2025, an important chamber assembly is pending, in which new elections for the board and the supervisory board take place. Dr. Christian Thiele becomes the new chairman of the board, and also Dr. Frank Thalacker is new to the board. The supervisory board will be with Dr. Sabine Brigitte Arndt and Dr. Katharina-Juliane Kirsche, while Dr. Franz Bernhard Ensink and Dr. Thomas-Carl Stiller confirmed members. Particular attention is paid to the choice for the position of the insurance mathematician, which will take place on November 30th, as [Https://www.aevn.de/wahlen-von-bünd-und-lichtrat-2/) reports.

The coming months therefore promise a lot of movement within the medical profession in Lower Saxony. With fresh heads at the top, the need for action in health care is probably more exciting than ever. We are excited to see how the new leadership will affect work in the district offices and medical training.
