Village festivals instead of disco: Estézargues celebrates tradition and community!
What's going on in Estézargues? The small community in the south of France is booming with a colorful festival calendar that attracts not only locals but also visitors. Loud Le Point More and more young people like Gabriel, 20 years old and from Gard, say that they have left discos behind them. Rather, they are now drawn to village festivals that convey a feeling of community and tradition.
The summer months turn into a true festival of colors and sounds, with events taking place in municipalities such as Bayonne, Dax and Nîmes, but also in smaller towns such as Estézargues. Here, where around 600 residents live, the Fête votive is the biggest event of the year. It is organized by the young generation, led by Rémi Roulet, a 37-year-old firefighter who heads the festival committee.
Cultural highlights and traditions
This celebration is not only a showcase of local customs, but also offers a varied program with traditional activities such as pétanque games and festive aperitifs. On the first evening of the celebrations, around 60 villagers gathered to celebrate ancient traditions. This ensures good coexistence, even if new residents sometimes have difficulty integrating.
Numerous surveys show that 94% of communities consider these village festivals to be important. On a Saturday morning, so reported Midi Libre, an “Abrivado” took place. This involved setting up ropes on the road to ensure safety while bulls were led through the village. This even attracted about 100 people who appreciated the villagers' traditional relationship with the animals.
A celebration for the whole family
On Saturday there was also a pétanque tournament that brought families together across generations. Children can look forward to a program specially organized for them, which makes the festival all the more attractive. The feeling of safety and community was palpable throughout the celebrations.
The village festivals are not only important for the locals, they are also a showcase for the country's cultures and traditions. CPARICI reports a variety of such festivals across France, organized by rural communities to celebrate local customs and gastronomy. These events promote exchange between locals and visitors and provide a platform for musical performances and traditional dishes.
The festival in Estézargues is an example of how deeply rooted traditions can live on in a modern society. So when the next Fête votive comes around, one thing is certain: not only is there a celebration here, but above all, the community is strengthened.
