40 years of AZ evening people run: record-start and exciting duels in Uelzen!
Uelzen, Deutschland - On June 16, 2025, the 40th anniversary edition of the AZ evening people run took place in Uelzen. A complete success, because with 2,725 participants from all age groups, the event became one of the largest running events in northern Germany. In addition to the athletes, there were also thousands of spectators to cheer on the athletes. The mood was great, thanks to the sunshine and a refreshing breeze.
Jörg Deumann, head of the volunteers, was surprised by the high number of registrations. "The second best overall result since 2017," he reported. Only 56 less participants than a few years ago were at the start, and that speaks for the continuous popularity of the run. A special highlight was the oldest participant, Wilhelm Holle, who is 87 years old.
The running programs in detail
This year two main routes were offered: the 10-kilometer and 5 kilometer run. A proud number of 220 participants took the challenge over the 10 kilometers, while 810 athletes took the 5 kilometers under their legs. SV Rosche celebrated double victories in both main runs. The defending champion Markus Lindner, who had to cancel his participation in the 10-kilometer run for health reasons, was particularly worth mentioning.
Jennifer Boehnke, the previous year's winner in the 5-kilometer run, took first place with a time of 18:47 minutes. Lisa Feuerherdt and Frederike Nehring followed in second and third place with times of 20:38 minutes and 21:37 minutes. In the men's 10-kilometer run, Christian Boohs took the lead with 35:38 minutes. Britta Giesen (W50) won the women's long distance run after 47:27 minutes.
medical precautions and security measures
With the increasing popularity of running sports, the medical requirements have also increased. As the specialist journal Sports Medicine notes, different health challenges can occur at such events, depending on the weather conditions and individual health profile of the participants. This year there were a total of 16 medical treatments that largely affected smaller injuries and heat -related problems.
In order to ensure the safety of the runners, increased safety precautions were taken. Two vehicles with medical staff were deployed in neuralgic bodies.
