Chaos in the metronome: 250 travelers brought to safety on fire on the train!
A shocking incident occurred on Sunday evening on the route of the metronome train between Uelzen and Bad Bevensen when a technical defect on the brakes led to a fire. According to FAZ.NET this happened in the front car of the ME 82132, while the train appeared on the open route in the Klein Bünstorf area. Rauch quickly moved into the second car, which alerted travelers and caused them to pull the emergency brake and put four window panes.
What a chaos! 250 travelers were affected and had to switch to a replacement train that brought them further to Hamburg. The railway line to Hamburg was closed for about two hours, which led to considerable delays. A total of 39 trains were affected, with the delays added to over 2000 minutes. Fortunately, according to a spokeswoman, there were no injuries, and the travelers were able to leave the train temporarily before the metronome finally continued to the next train station in Bad Bevens.
Large deployment of rescue workers
The situation required an extensive commitment of the federal and state police, fire brigade, emergency services and the emergency manager of Deutsche Bahn. Firefighters received active support from a fellow firefighter who immediately deleted the fire. This incident underlines the importance of well -organized emergency management, which is also characterized by historical development and legal framework in Germany. The Research information system shows that since the 1993/94 rail reform, responsibility for fire protection has been transferred from Deutsche Bahn to the federal states.
In addition, railway companies are legally obliged to work on fire protection measures. The agreement between the interior ministers of the federal states and the Deutsche Bahn from 1998 specifies responsibilities, and there are fixed processes for emergencies to ensure efficient help.
FAZIT
This incident is an impressive example of the challenges that emergency management has to face in rail transport. While travelers remained calm and reacted quickly, the technical defect demands both from Deutsche Bahn and the responsible authorities to continuously check their security precautions and technical infrastructures. After all, intensive maintenance and training for emergencies could make a significant difference in future events in order not only to guarantee the safety of the passengers, but also to improve.
