Drunk driver causes serious accident on A1 near Lohne!
On Sunday, November 9, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on Autobahn 1 in Lohne at around 5:30 p.m. A 58-year-old driver from Poland not only had little luck with his van, but also had an extremely high alcohol level of 1.41 per mille when he drove into a traffic jam. It was too late for the driver to recognize the SUV of a 47-year-old woman from Ammerland standing in front of him, who had come to a stop with hazard lights on due to traffic.
The impact was violent: the force of the accident pushed the SUV into a small car that belonged to a 64-year-old driver from Dithmarschen. This in turn crashed into a VW that was being driven by a 19-year-old man from Dithmarschen. Fortunately, all four people affected only suffered minor injuries and were immediately transported to hospital by ambulance. The property damage amounts to around 15,000 euros and all vehicles involved had to be towed away.
Drunk drivers are among the main culprits
The numbers surrounding alcohol-related traffic accidents are alarming. According to a Statista report published on July 9, 2025 and viewed on November 10, 2025, there are a significant number of these accidents. In the period from 1995 to 2024, the Federal Statistical Office points out that alcohol-related accidents are an ever-present problem not only in Germany but worldwide. A user account is required to access the detailed statistics, but the general trend speaks for itself: drinking and driving is a serious risk that affects not only the person responsible, but also innocent road users.
In the case of Lohne's accident, an investigation was initiated against the 58-year-old driver. He faces serious allegations of endangering road traffic and negligent bodily harm. The police responded immediately and also confiscated his driver's license. These measures are intended to help make the roads safer.
Travel safely on the roads
The consequences of this incident are clear: drivers addicted to alcohol have no place on the roads. Therefore, special caution is required, especially in the hectic times of traffic, when each of us is dependent on one another. We call on all road users to take responsibility and drive safely - because this is the only way we can protect ourselves and others.
