Successful renaturation: Hunting cooperative long paths protects biotope!
At an on-site appointment in Langwege, Heinrich Moormann, the former mayor of Dinklage, praised the impressive work of the hunting cooperative. In close cooperation with the Nature Conservation Authority of the Vechta district, this has successfully renatured a formerly fallow biotope with pond. After around 30 years of neglect, the pond had grown greatly and needed extensive care. Moormann thanked the hunters and hunting tenants for their commitment and emphasized that a large decorative action and the removal of mud were necessary to put the water back into a natural state.
The renaturation measure was carried out with some financial support: 2,000 euros came from the Lower Saxony Bingo Foundation, while the Foundation for Environmental and Nature Conservation in the Vechta district (see below) was available with 2500 euros. This foundation, which was founded in 1991, has set itself the goal of actively initiating and promoting environmental and nature conservation measures.
sustainability and nature conservation in focus
The commitment to nature conservation is increasingly coming to the fore. Moormann found that the control over the waters' increase and the permeability of light by cutting trees, especially towards the south, were crucial for the restoration of the biotope. "The hunting cooperative has proven a good hand here and shows how Jäger can actively contribute to the preservation of the environment and nature," continued Moormann.
The exchange between agriculture and nature conservation is further promoted by initiatives. In 2022, advice on biotope and species protection was launched in Lower Saxony, which is active in nine regions of the country. This advice is aimed at integrating biotope and species protection into agricultural use and taking economic aspects into account. A target and measures concept that meets the local conditions is developed through the cooperation of consultants from the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture (LWK) and the Lower Saxony State of Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation (NLWKN).
insights into the consulting regions
The nine consulting regions in Lower Saxony offer farmers to support measures for biotope and species protection economically. Some of the regions are:
- Peine/Wolfenbüttel - contact person: Martina Diehl
- Lüchow-Dannenberg -contact person: Sina Rolfsmeyer
- Emsland - contact person: Janosch Hans
- Celle/Gifhorn - contact person: Kerstin Fricke
- nienburg - contact person: Hannah Figge
- Cuxhaven / Stade / Rotenburg - contact person: Jessica Weller
- friesland - contact person: Stephan Schroer
- Osnabrück/Vechta - contact person: Bernd Eilers
The comprehensive advice in Lower Saxony is to be expanded by 2025. Coordinators of the LWK and the NLWKN work hand in hand to create a central point of contact for biotope and species protection. The lower nature conservation authorities also play an important role by formulating nature conservation goals and measures in the landscape framework plans.
The commitment of the Langwege hunting cooperative is a nice example of how local initiatives can advance nature conservation and promote cooperation between different actors. Such projects that raise awareness of the preservation of habitats and biodiversity are not only important for nature, but also pay off for the community.
