Winter magic in Lower Saxony: snow, frost and storms threaten!

The weather shows us today, December 7th, 2025, a real winter weekend in Lower Saxony, characterized by frosty temperatures, snow and bright sunshine. However, according to weather expert Dominik Jung, who is known for his well-founded forecasts, the joy about the winter conditions is only short-lived. He sees big changes coming our way: “From the coming days, the wintry charm in Lower Saxony will disappear,” reports news38.de.

So what do we have to prepare for? Strong gusts of wind and storms are expected until December 11th. December is expected to be 1 to 2 degrees warmer than the climate average for the years 1991 to 2020. Even if a mild first meteorological month of winter is imminent, the nights in Lower Saxony will not be frosty and temperatures are expected to be between 4 and 8 degrees until the weekend. Mixed weather with a lot of gray and occasional rain is forecast for the coming days.

Weather outlook: “Gray on grey”

Looking into the future, Jung describes the next 14 days as “gray on gray” and “boring”. There are no signs of frost or the longed-for winter weather until at least the middle of the month. This could disappoint many people who were already looking forward to winter. The habits in Lower Saxony seem to adapt to the changing times, because the warm temperatures do not appear to be a coincidence.

The region has experienced a number of climatic changes in recent years, which are reflected, among other things, in the Lower Saxony climate report. It shows how differently the state's natural areas react to changes in temperature and precipitation. In particular, the North Sea coast, the low mountain regions and the agricultural inland area between the Ems and Elbe show very different sensitivity to climate change. The Climate report Lower Saxony provides valuable information about the state's climate and shows how important adaptations to climate change are.

So if we were hoping for colder temperatures in December, we should prepare for a mild month. The weather remains changeable and the snow will certainly melt soon. A good hand and the right clothing are required when we venture outside!
