Elmshorn shines: Seven talents in the North-Baltic Sea Cup final!
On July 12, 2025, space in the Kiel University Swimming Hall was firmly reserved for young talents from Schleswig-Holstein. It was a very special day for the Elmshorner MTV, because seven swimmers had qualified for the final of the North Baltic Sea Cup qualified. The competition is specially designed for 6 to 9 year old swimmers and is organized annually by the Schleswig-Holstein Swimming Association (SHSV).
A total of 22 clubs with 167 young talents traveled to Kiel, where the best swimmers from the preliminary competitions were able to compete. The participants from Elmshorn were able to hold their own in the colorful competition atmosphere, even if in the end the team only achieved 11th place in the team ranking. But the focus was clearly on fun and motivation!
Excellent performances
Particularly noteworthy is the performance of Mila Grieger, who won the all-around competition again in her year (JG 2016) and was rewarded with a trophy and inclusion in the SHSV squad. This is her third win in a row, an impressive performance that shows how great her talent is.
Lea Kröger, the youngest participant born in 2019, competed in the 25 meter breaststroke and also attracted attention. It's great to see how confident the young swimmers were in their skills and how much fun they had during the competition.
A mix of preliminary rounds and finals
The preliminary battles for the North-Baltic Sea Cup were held at various locations, such as the swimming pool in Barsbüttel and the campus pool in Flensburg. Given the high number of participants and the great enthusiasm for this competition, organizing it was a very special challenge for those responsible. Overall, the competitions not only demand a high level of versatility from the participants, but also their endurance and commitment.
The participants were accompanied by judges who recorded the results on a competition card. This enables a systematic evaluation of the performance, whereby each participant had to master at least three of four tasks, which made the challenge even more exciting.
A look into the future
The talents of the Elmshorner MTV impressively demonstrated their skills at the North-Baltic Sea Cup. Even if the team spirit didn't show first place through 11th place, the motivation for the next competitions is certainly even greater after this experience. Especially after the interruption caused by the corona pandemic in 2020, which made the competition impossible, the return to such events is a reason for everyone involved to be happy.
In conclusion, it remains to be said that Lower Saxony's swimming sport has gained freshness and dynamism thanks to the North-Baltic Sea Cup. The little swimmers are the stars of tomorrow, and we can't wait to see how they develop their careers. The best time on their journey has certainly not yet been reached!
