The Elbe and its tributaries are not only traffic routes, but also an experience for water sports enthusiasts. A particularly charming representative among the traditional ships is the Ewer Gloria, which has been active since 2004 and keeps the sailing culture alive. Ewer Gloria is a former cargo ship and preserves the tradition of sailing with a clear goal: to preserve maritime heritage and make shared sailing accessible to everyone interested. Participation in the trips is independent of experience, which makes the project particularly attractive. The association “Friends of the Ewers GLORIA e.V.” is committed to maintaining the ship and regularly organizes excursions, which are ideal for adventurous guests with a passion for sailing. shz.de reports that anyone interested can take part as guests or hobby sailors.

The Ewer Gloria's trips regularly lead to small ports on the Elbe, with Glückstadt often being visited, as Glueckstadt Tourismus describes. Up to 21 people can actively participate in the event. Whether you lend a hand yourself, relax or chat with the crew - everyone finds their place. After arriving at the port, the crew will also be able to do joint activities, which strengthens the community and togetherness.

A ship for young and old

The Ewer Gloria has a lot to offer: With a sail area of ​​around 100 square meters adjusted to the conditions of tide and wind, the ship invites both experienced sailors and beginners to discover the art of sailing together. There is no prior knowledge, the crew demonstrates “learning by doing”, so there is plenty of room for discovery. The conversion of the former cargo hold into a cozy cabin with a kitchenette ensures that the crew feels comfortable during their journeys. There are a total of eight bunks and a sanitary room available, so that longer stays are also possible. In addition, crew members can spend the night on board and return to Elmshorn the next day, making it easier to organize the trips.

The ship is operated by an experienced skipper who has at least a recreational boating license. In the current season the crew consists of around 20 members, with three to five people usually steering the ship. The trips are planned according to a fixed timetable in which the crew members enter their availability. Regular training tours on the Baltic Sea and participation in events such as the Hamburg Harbor Birthday and the Elmshorn Harbor Festival are also on the program. These events are no reason for the Ewer Gloria to present itself in the maritime community.
