Brilliant victories at the Holstein Horse Days: Champions crowned!
The Holstein Horse Days are in full swing again this year and ended on June 16, 2025 with spectacular state championships for five and six-year-old show jumpers. On the grounds of the Holsteiner Verband in Elmshorn you can look back on an impressive variety of achievements and talents. The final event in the second week of June not only attracts breeders, riders and horse lovers, but is also a highlight for the region.
In the age group of five-year-old show jumpers, the pair Brilliant Nessaja and rider Jesse Luther performed best. The fabulous gelding from Brantzau achieved excellent scores of 8.6 and 8.7 in the M* class show jumping horse test. According to the judges' comments, Brilliant Nessaja showed impressive rideability values and jumped unerringly on the top bar while being able to basculate very well. Silver medal went to Union City, ridden by Lucas Wenz, who also did well with 8.8 and 8.4. As third in the group, Maximum von der Söhr secured the bronze medal, with consistently solid scores of 8.5 and 8.6. The jury emphasized that Maximum remained strong in the second round. These young talents make you want more!
Excellent performances from the six-year-olds
The best 12 pairs who qualified for the jump-off competed in the State Championships for six-year-old show jumping horses, sponsored by Gestüt Grönwohldhof. Nightwish, another outstanding horse, ridden by Arne van Heel, shone with a score of 8.5 and secured victory. Nightwish has a special history - he was sold as the top price at the elite riding horse auction in 2023 and handed over to the Holsteiner Association. Silver medal went to Connection under Philip Loven with a score of 8.3, while Cultino EB with Rolf-Göran Bengtsson finished third in the jump-off with a clear round in the jump-off.
The Holstein Horse Days are a celebration of breeding and tradition, during which the best mares and foals are also presented. On June 8th, around 60 three-year-old mares competed for the title of champion mare and showed the diversity of Holstein breeding. Stallions like Cascadello I had already made a lasting impression as reserve champions at the 2009 licensing and are now producing a large number of promising daughters.
A strong breeding tradition
Holstein horse breeding has proven to be very successful in the 21st century and continues to influence many show jumping horse breeds worldwide. From the beginning to the current champions, breeding is characterized by consistent work and the selection of athletically talented animals. Holsteiners are known for their versatility and above-average jumping ability and are characterized by an uncomplicated character that makes them ideal partners in sport.
A significant highlight of the Holstein Horse Days are the bonuses for the breeders of successful horses. The top three winners of the six-year-old championship will not only receive fame and honor, but also a check for 1,000 euros, while the best pairs can qualify for the Holsteiner Masters Future Prize at the Baltic Horse Show in Kiel. These initiatives show how important it is to support and recognize breeders and riders in the region.
The Holstein Horse Days not only represent a platform for first-class show jumping, but are also a valuable part of North German culture, which is deeply rooted in equestrian sport. If you have the chance to attend this event, you definitely shouldn't miss it!
