A major fire in the production facility of the Kölln food company in Elmshorn caused a stir on Thursday night. The extinguishing work took many hours. At around 1 a.m., the emergency services began extinguishing the fire, which proved to be time-consuming and personnel-intensive. The fire brigade was busy until the evening hours, especially emptying the silo in which 10 to 15 cubic meters of grain dust was stored. Fire particles had spread through the ventilation system into the silo, which no longer contained by-products suitable for food production.
Although no one was injured in the fire, one emergency worker briefly complained of circulatory problems. The company itself states that production of Kölln continues, albeit under restricted conditions. No information is yet known about the cause of the fire or the resulting property damage.
